Kulturfonds Frankfurt RheinMain

The joint project Ludwig Meidner – Seismograph is being subsidized substantially by the Kulturfonds Frankfurt RheinMain. The latter was founded in 2007 on the initiative of the State Government of Hesse as a charitable limited liability company headquartered in Bad Homburg. In addition to the Hessian state, the partners include the cities of Frankfurt, Darmstadt, Hanau and Wiesbaden, as well as the districts of Main-Taunus and Hochtaunus.

The main task of the Kulturfonds is to promote the networking of the Frankfurt RheinMain metropolitan region through cultural collaboration, to further strengthen its attractiveness and to document the region’s art and cultural traditions. In addition to regional cultural activities, the Kulturfonds mainly subsidizes projects of national and international relevance. Moreover, the temporary projects initiated by the Kulturfonds Frankfurt RheinMain address themes that have shaped, and are still shaping, the region and identity of Frankfurt RheinMain. These constitute an invitation to those involved in the arts and in cultural institutions to artistically interpret and implement these themes. After the successful projects The Phenomenon of Expressionism (2009-2012) and The Romantic Impulse (2012-2015), the current focal point is Transit.

The Kulturfonds is unique throughout the country. In keeping with the concept of a matching fund, every euro contributed by the municipal partners is matched by the State of Hesse. As a result, the Kulturfonds Frankfurt RheinMain has been able to raise about 40 million Euros in subsidies to date.
